“When a man has had a great deal given him, a great deal will be demanded of him; when a man has had a great deal given him on trust, even more will be expected of him” (Luke 12: 48).
Each of us has been given such a great deal – from the air we breathe to the food on our tables; from the intellect to the work we do to meet our daily needs; from the strength to do our work to the roof over our heads; from family to friends. For all these, a great deal will be expected of us.
He created us in love. And when out of weakness and sin, we fell from grace, He sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to lift us out of the darkness of sin and death to the glorious state of His wonderful light and have the grace restored. He paid for our salvation with the precious blood of His Son. This is a great deal given to us in trust.
The Psalmist cries out! “How can I repay the Lord for His goodness to me? The cup of salvation I will raise; I will call on the Lord’s name. My vows to the Lord I will fulfil in the presence of all His people” (Psalm 116: 12-14).
Lord, make me humble, so I can be grateful.
Give me courage, so I can raise the cup of my salvation.
Make me brave, so I can call on Your Name in the midst of all peoples
Make me a light in the darkness of our world. Amen.
